The device that makes us more human
E-ink tablets have been rapidly gaining popularity. The E-ink tablet is a rare piece of tech that appeals to the older and young generation of people alike. It celebrates writing and brings us back to the days of adventure when we thought and learnt with pen and paper.

The Reality of Screen Dependency
There is hardly a day that goes by where we are not nose deep in our phones. Much of the way we have absorbed information in this generation has been through this looking glass where we could literally search up anything on the internet if we wished to find out about something. In fact, we have become so dependent on this handheld device that we are lost without it. There is a nagging thought at the back of our heads that thinks, back in the day, it was opium or drugs that people were addicted to. And in our era, people would write of us as being that generation who were not enslaved to substances, but laughably to screens. An entire generation that has lost touch with reality. And Apple has literally brought that satire to life with the Apple Vision Pro. You have a piece of tech that you can now glue in front of your eyes all day. You don't even need your hands to hold up the phone. We've placed blinkers in front of our eyes and lost sight of the simple things in life that grow up without our attention. Like our children who have grown under our noses, looking at us enslaved to screens.
The Emergence of Counter-Tech
In the midst of this reality crisis, a piece of tech has emerged that runs in a completely opposite vein of tech that screams the brightest, the fastest, the loudest. A simple e-ink screen that doesn't have any backlight.
Kindle: The Game Changer
When the Kindle came out it stood apart like a rose amongst thorns. Here was a device that stirred a generation back to reading. And the screen was so delicious and easy on the eyes that you could just read and enjoy. Even when the device was turned off, you could still see a beautiful black and white sketch with crisp, delectable contrast. There is excitement because of the possibilities that could be unlocked. No screen with backlight had ever looked great under strong lighting, but with this e-ink screen, the brighter the light, the more brilliant the text became, the more enjoyable the reading experience. There is just something visually so appealing about a tech that is so like paper, but isn't.
The Evolution: Writing Capabilities
The Kindle, however, didn't have any writing capabilities. And this is where companies like Remarkable and Onyx Boox came in and rewrote the next chapter in e-ink history by replicating the writing experience of pen on paper on an e-ink screen.
Rediscovering Simplicity
For many of us who grew up in school without phones, our lives were always about pen and paper. There is just something so pure with a simple notebook you can pen your thoughts in. But let's be realistic, who has space in their bag to lug around notebooks? So comes this device that has so much packed under its hood. It does virtually everything you could do on your Android device. Yet on the outside, it looks like the most normal piece of paper. Nothing about it shouts at you, yet it is fully appreciated with time and use.
The Allure of Boox E-ink Tablet
I've always been attracted to tech because it ignites the imagination. Just the way James Bond's watch that looked like a watch actually was a laser cutter. And the Boox E-ink tablet is really something like that to me. A device that is More than meets the eye.
Rediscovering Humanity Through Writing
The act of writing becomes accessible once more. You don't have to worry about running out of paper to jot down your thoughts. And over time, slowly we remember what it means to be human as we write about things that matter to us. As we write about things we have to do. We stop living our lives on autopilot and set ourselves on a path where we are intentional about what we do, and why we do what we do.
Conclusion: Embracing the Boox Experience
I love the tech of Boox and its line of E-ink tablets (and personally I always go for the highest specs) but that's because at the end of the day, I'm so excited about reimagining a blank piece of paper and fill it with the parts of me that make me me. Which is why when I look at my Boox devices, I look at them with fondness. Something just feels right when you write on it. I've tried writing on iPads, Samsung Tablets, and handphones. And truly nothing beats an e-ink screen where it comes to jotting things with a pen, or stylus. A beautiful bridge between analog and digital. A device that nudges us to slow down.
